Leather jackets do not come cheap. A high quality, genuine leather jacket can cost anywhere from $400 to $2,000 or more. Yes, it's a steep price to pay, but you can think of leather products as an investment — they will last a lifetime if you clean and condition them regularly.

If you own a leather jacket, you should know how to condition it. If you condition (and clean) your leather jacket, it will look amazing and last forever.

WHY YOU SHOULD USE LEATHER JACKET CONDITIONER

Conditioning a leather jacket is vital to maintaining it. Genuine leather is a natural material and it needs moisture and oils to keep it from cracking and deteriorating. Conditioning your leather jacket also adds a layer of protection against the elements. When you condition the jacket, you keep it looking its best and ensure it lasts for years and years.

CLEAN YOUR JACKET BEFORE CONDITIONING

It never hurts to do a quick cleaning of your leather jacket before you condition it. Wipe the jacket down with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove any loose dirt. Then, do a spot test of Leather Honey Leather Cleaner. Simply apply a little Leather Honey to a discreet location to make sure it accepts the cleaner without a hitch. It should, don't worry! And be sure to use a premade cleaner. Don't use household products like vinegar or baking soda, as those will rob the leather of its oils and eventually damage it. Once you have completed your spot test, apply Leather Honey Leather Cleaner (we suggest using Leather Honey Leather Cleaner with UV Protectant for leather items that are exposed to lots of sunlight) to a lint-free cloth and gently rub the solution onto the leather jacket. Cover it evenly with a thin coat. Allow the leather jacket to dry completely before moving on to the conditioning.

If you are cleaning a suede jacket, use Leather Honey Suede & Nubuck Cleaner. It is specifically formulated for those softer leathers.

Our Leather Honey Leather Cleaner is gentle and effective, so you shouldn't have to work hard or scrub the leather to remove stains.

CONDITIONING A LEATHER JACKET IN 5 STEPS

1. Spot test.

Just like with your leather cleaner, you should spot test Leather Honey Leather Conditioner too. Add a small amount to a discreet location and allow it to dry. The leather will darken a bit, but that effect will lessen over time.

2. Apply the conditioner.

Once you are done with your spot test, apply Leather Honey Leather Conditioner to a lint-free cloth and coat the jacket evenly. Make sure you get into the cracks and crevices, as they tend to need conditioning the most.

3. Allow to dry.

After the conditioner is applied, you need to allow the leather jacket to dry completely. We suggest waiting 24 hours if you can.

4. Wipe away excess.

If there is any excess conditioner left on the jacket after 24 hours, go ahead and wipe it away with a clean, lint-free cloth.

5. Repeat if necessary.

If your leather jacket is excessively dry, it might need two coats of Leather Honey Leather Conditioner. If the jacket seems to soak up the conditioner quickly and still appears slightly dry, apply another round. Remember, a little goes a long way.

What Our Customers Say

I applied Leather Honey to my Brooks leather jacket which was purchased in 1991. Never been treated and I applied one coat which made it look almost new again. I may have to apply more in certain weathered areas but the product really made a difference. Wait till I show my riding friends.
