Once upon a time, shoes were made entirely out of leather and the only existing leather conditioners were made of fire hazardous materials and produced toxic odors. 

Two men, a retired chemist and our very own, Daniel McGowen, put their heads together to find a better solution for the restoration of shoes.  In the 1960s, the Leather Honey formula was born.

Before it was mass-produced, the two conducted an experiment to confirm the formula’s durability.  A local mailman was recruited, a man who spent his days walking mile after mile in every type of weather condition.  On one of his shoes, a layer of the formula was spread while the other shoe was left untreated.

The experiment proved what the two men had predicted – the sole that was not treated with the formula had to be replaced two times before the sole that had been treated!  They discovered that the Leather Honey did not evaporate once it absorbed into the leather and that the formula increased the leather’s flexibility in the cold climate.
