Leather Conditioner: Leather Honey since 1968 "Makes Leather Last Longer"

How Do You Soften a New Leather Bridle?

It is always an exciting moment when you get a new leather bridle. You can’t wait to use it on your horse, but then you suddenly notice how stiff it is. New leather is almost always stiff. Luckily, it is a fairly simple process to soften up a new leather bridle. Just follow these steps and it will be silky soft and flexible in a flash:

Gather the Materials you will need:

  • Leather Honey
  • Leather cleaner
  • A small bowl of warm water
  • Two sponges
  • Lint-free cloths
  1. The next step is to clean the bridle. Use the leather cleaner with a sponge to clean every square inch of the bridle. When it is good and lathered up, you will want to rinse all of the soap off with a damp sponge. When you have the bridle completely rinsed off, use a dry cloth to dry the bridle completely.
  2. When the bridle is completely dry, use the other sponge to apply the Leather Honey to the bridle. You don’t have to use much of the Leather Honey. Just a few drops from the bottle should be enough to handle the job, depending on the size of the bridle. Most regular-sized bridles will only need one or two ounces of Leather Honey to make them supple. If the bridle is especially dried out, then you may need to use a little more conditioner.
  3. Once you have completely worked the Leather Honey into the bridle, give it time to hydrate and absorb. It may take two hours or longer for the conditioner to do its work. You will notice that the bridle is softer as soon as you have worked the oil in, but it will probably still be a little stiff. If you wait until the next day, you will find that the Leather Honey has completely softened the leather like magic.
  4. The bridle will now be ready to use for the first time. It is best to repeat this process before storing your leather tack for the winter. If the bridle gets dirty before that, clean and condition as needed.  Doing so will not only keep the bridle supple, but it will also prolong the life of the bridle. It will keep the bridle from drying and cracking, which goes a long way towards keeping it in good condition. Whenever you see signs of the bridle becoming dry or stiff, then go ahead and reapply the Leather Honey treatment to restore it back to new. You – and your horse — will enjoy the feel of the soft leather.

Want Leather That Lasts? Condition It!

protect-leather-with-leather-honeyHave you ever conditioned your leather? If you haven’t, then you are shortening its life. As a natural product, leather needs moisture to last, and that moisture comes in the form of leather conditioner. Understanding how a leather conditioner, like Leather Honey, protects your leather items will help you understand why this is an investment you can’t afford not to make.

Understanding What Leather Is

Imagine the skin on your body for a moment. Do you ever condition it with moisturizers or lotion? Of course you do, especially when the air gets dry.

Leather is also skin, but unlike the skin on your body, leather is no longer receiving nourishment and moisture on a daily basis. The only moisture it receives is the moisture you put on it. If you are not moisturizing it, it can dry out.

Dry leather, particularly when used for clothing, loses is flexibility. This means it’s no longer comfortable to wear. Over time it can crack, which ruins it. When you’ve spent $300 for a quality piece of leather clothing, only to find that it cracks and breaks when exposed to the elements, you’ll quickly understand why it’s so important to condition the leather.

Leather Conditioner Moisturizes and Protects

Not only does leather conditioner, like Leather Honey, moisturize your leather, but it also protects it. Quality conditioners soak into the leather fibers to moisturize them, then provide a protective barrier against water and moisture, which can damage the leather and lead to premature cracking. If you are regularly wearing your leather items in a wet environment, conditioning them is a must.

How Often Should You Condition?

Leather items should be conditioned the first time they are used, because few leather items come pre-conditioned. Once this initial conditioning is complete, the number of times you need to condition will vary depending on many factors. One of these is the environment. If your environment is dry and hot, conditioning more frequently will be necessary.

Another consideration to make when deciding how often to condition is how frequently you wear your items. If you only wear them occasionally, you can condition once every six months, or either before or after you store the item for the season. If you wear them daily, you will need to condition more frequently. A dry, chalky appearance is a sign your item needs conditioning.

Finally, consider the condition of the leather. Leather that is old and thin will need to be conditioned more frequently. It simply cannot hold the conditioner as long as newer pieces.

A Word of Caution About Conditioner

Many people who use leather conditioners for the first time are surprised that it darkens their leather. Some think that this is staining the leather, but it is not. This is simply a natural part of the conditioning process. As the leather soaks up the moisture, its color will darken slightly. It generally returns to the original color with a bit of time.

With a conditioner like Leather Honey, your leather items can withstand years of use. You’ve invested well by purchasing leather. Now keep it healthy with a quality leather conditioner.

“I think I could hear the couch and love seat say awhhhhhhhhhh as I was applying the Leather Honey” — Kevin

Shawn,

I am not sure who to send these pictures to, but WOW. I am so happy I found the Leather Honey website. As you can see in the pictures, a major difference has been made in the love seat. It took about 1/2 gallon to do them both and we had to do some parts of the furniture two times. I think I could hear the couch and love seat say awhhhhhhhhhh as I was applying the Leather Honey. Thank you for such a great product.

“LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!” — Janice

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I was looking for a leather treatment to use on my boyfriend’s furniture because the “stuff” he bought left it looking dull and faded. I did a Google search for leather treatment and found you.

I used Leather Honey and was amazed at the results. To show how dramatic the results were I applied Leather Honey to half of his couch and ottoman and took pictures. I also took the rag with which I had been applying the Leather Honey,  pulled out all my leather shoes (including a pair of boots I was going to throw out) and polished them too. Amazing.  LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!

Also, when I started applying Leather Honey to his ottoman, which was in the sun, I realized it is much easier to apply when the leather, as well as the Leather Honey, is warm. If you can set your leather in the sun for a while.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Sincerely,
Your new faithful customer,

Janice

“Thanks for the great product!” – Ralph

leather-chair-conditionedI had an old leather chair that had seen better days; my wife couldn’t stand looking at it anymore so I ended up giving it to my son. I told him that he needed to condition the leather with something, so I searched and found Leather Honey. I ordered a bottle for him and one for me; he still hasn’t used it on the chair. But I’ve used it on numerous things and I love the product. I have thought about getting my old chair back and giving it a new life, thanks for the great product!

“It’s the best investment” – Ed

I just received my quart bottle of Leather Honey. It’s the best investment I made by buying your product. My Natuzzi sofa and chair looks just like when I purchased it from the furniture store. It took the wrinkles and faded look to the original form. Thank you and keep me informed on your new products.

Sincerely,

Ed

“This stuff is phenomenal” — Debbie

leather-handbag-conditionerI have to say way to go on this product. I have been looking for a good leather conditioner for years. Way back in my teens I rode horses and used saddle soap & Lexol on all my leather items. I wish I would have had this stuff back then. I had been using a cream conditioner for years but it left a film that I had to work to get off. This stuff is phenomenal. I was always taught to use the bare hand to apply to leather to get it to go into the leather. This is what I did with this but I realize that the way it does soak in I would not have had to do that. I bought a brand new leather Fossil Tote that was very stiff and wanted to treat it before using. So I patiently waited for my 8oz bottle to arrive from Amazon and went right to work applying it. I left it sit overnight and by the next morning my new bag looked newer than new :-) . Sitting in stores and warehouses I know that leather dries out. I put another application on last night and it soaked in again making the leather seem even more supple. I applied to a pair of old shoes that now look new. I just want to thank you for a wonderful product. I have since ordered a gallon from Amazon that should arrive Friday and can’t wait to try it on all my leather.
