Leather Boot & Shoe Care

Leather Boot & Shoe Care

Back when shoes, sandals, and boots were made entirely out of leather, most leather conditioners were made of fire-hazardous materials and produced toxic odors. In the early 1960s, Daniel McGowen (our founder) and a retired chemist worked together to develop a better way to treat leather shoes. They developed an odorless, toxin-free product and the Leather Honey conditioner formula was born.

Before mass producing the innovative conditioner, the two conducted an experiment to confirm its durability. They recruited a local mailman who spent his days walking miles in all kinds of weather. They treated one of his shoes with the formula and left the other shoe untreated. The durability of the Leather Honey leather conditioner was confirmed when the untreated shoe had to be replaced twice before the treated shoe. The experiment also showed that the leather conditioner did not evaporate once it was absorbed into the leather and the formula increased the leather’s flexibility in the cold climate. Over the years we have also found that our leather conditioner works well on exotic leathers like lizard, alligator, sheepskin, snakeskin, sting ray, and more.

Leather Boot & Shoe Conditioner

Our best-selling conditioner works to soften and restore your leather

leather-conditioner-product-siloAmazon #1 Best Seller Leather Care ProductNew leather shoes, and ones you haven’t worn in a while, can feel stiff due to lack of moisture. If you try to “break them in” you may cause the leather to crack (and hurt your feet in the process). Our leather conditioner acts as a leather softener for shoes and boots. It provides moisture which makes the leather pliable and supple again.

Conditioning leather on a regular basis (about every 6 months if you wear the shoes regularly, or when you take your boots out of storage) will restore your leather. It is pretty simple to do yourself. Always start by testing a small, inconspicuous area. Then rub a thin, even coat of Leather Honey Leather Conditioner over the leather parts of the shoes. A little bit of the product goes a long way, so the coat you apply does not have to be thick. Allow the shoes to sit for at least two hours (preferably overnight) then wipe off any excess product.
